Save Money w/ Protective Style: Scarves

Okay, you guys, I have a question:

How much do you guys spend on protective styles? Like any? Because I think the most I’ve spent on a single protective style was about $70 (which I think is pretty great considering I installed the hair myself).

But let’s face it: hair is expensive… Even synthetic hair (which is the only kind I’ll use) isn’t exactly cheap. I think the most I’ve spent on a pack of synthetic hair was about $7…

But then I saw pictures of women who were wrapping their heads in these beautiful scarves and I thought, “Woah… I wanna look like an African princess too….” And at first I was a bit discouraged because I remembered that I couldn’t apply fabrics like cotton or polyester straight to my hair as they’d suck all the oils out. So I tried looking for some silk scarves and remember thinking,

Ain’t nobody got time to be tryin to spend no $200 on a scarf…

So back to brainstorming I went!

I tried placing my satin bonnet underneath one of the scarves I had and I thought it turned out pretty great:

This was the only scarf I had for a while that I could actually fashion into any sort of turban, until I discovered the wonderful place that is Charming Charlie’s…..

At this point my mother and little sister had returned to their natural hair too and we all booked it to the store while they were having a sale. And I mean the scarf I got that cost the most was about $5! I was stoked!! My mom and I sat on YouTube together trying to find different ways to tie our new scarves, and to be honest, this is probably one of my favorite protective styles. It’s cheap, it’s easy, and you can get a variety of scarves to match your wardrobe! I usually wear them most in summer to keep everything off my neck, but it’s totally up to you!

(BTW, this isn’t a sponsored post… I just freaking love Charming Charlie’s…) XD
